The Great South Run – Why It Mattered So Much

On 19 October 2025, I crossed the finish line of the Great South Run in 2 hours and 7 minutes—soaked through, battered by rain, and even hit by hail at mile 9. But I did it. I even got to ring the bell, and that moment will stay with me forever.

This wasn’t just about running 10 miles. It was about everything that led up to it. If you’ve read my earlier posts, you’ll know this challenge was deeply personal. I ran #RunForBoo for Betsy – someone who means the world to me. Every mile, and every step reminded me why I started this journey.

Training wasn’t easy. There were days I doubted myself, days when life got in the way, and days when my journey with the menopause made things harder! But the messages of support, the encouragement from friends and family, and the belief that this mattered kept me going. When the weather turned on race day, I thought, “This is it – this is the test.” And I pushed through.

Crossing that finish line wasn’t just a physical achievement. It was emotional. It was proof that #ThisGirlCan – and did. I earned the medal, the T-shirt, and the latte (or two!) that followed. But more than that, I honoured Boo, raised awareness for Coeliac UK, and showed myself what’s possible when you run with heart.

Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. Your messages truly carried me through those tough miles. This wasn’t just my run – it was ours.
