So, it’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post. Not because I haven’t had anything to write about but mainly because I haven’t felt like posting anything! I started at least 4 posts but then gave up, thinking what’s the point at the moment?
And then true to form, bang, I’m inspired after my ex boss, fab friend, nicknamed ‘Eric’ (after banana man) tweeted: For my sanity and in an attempt to entertain, I may start doing blogs or videos again. Which if any, would you prefer me to do?
Of course my response was: blogs and then you can inspire me to crack on with mine! So the challenge is on and he’s kept his end of the bargain, posting his first blog in almost a year – Why create? Go see what he has to say and give him a follow at https://rikjackson.co.uk/
I think I’m also doing this for my sanity but also because writing gives me a creative outlet. Plus for those who do enjoy reading my blog, it’s something to look forward to amid all this madness…
And it is total madness! The World has never been through anything like this before. Even in wars your allowed to check in with people, give each other hugs and visibly see each other. I think that’s what I’m really struggling with – not physically seeing anyone! Even not going to work once in a while would normally seem attractive. But working from home every day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be! Not seeing people daily, who you’d normally see, share your dramas with plus rant when needed is kind of weird.
Technology is also VERY frustrating… I’m used to working with two screens in the office and now a simple task takes me twice as long with one. Plus I don’t have a printer!
On the positive side, as a colleague reminded me today I’m eating less and doing a lot more exercise than normal. One thing I’ve achieved each day is a walk or run- walking both Alfie and Betsy to and from child care – a fantastic allowance we have been granted as both Darren and I are both key workers. My work is of little importance, compared to Darren’s but I want to keep doing my bit, remaining positive and help people by keeping them informed throughout this mental time.
Betsy doesn’t understand any of this or why she can’t see her grandparents, who also normally look after her, so it’s a great comfort that one of her routines remains – going to nursery. Plus it’s the same for Alfie – he’s a worrier and needs routine plus absolutely loves going to school, so it’s been amazing for him to still keep going whilst it’s still possible.
So the exercise is good, it’s good for the soul and definitely for my wellbeing. It’s another achievement as I’m easily now cracking on with over 15,000 steps a day! Yippee, I won’t be a beached whale after all, whenever I return to work…
I’ve also ticked off on my parental skills, teaching Alfie to scoot and he now seems to have ticked off his list – teaching his little Sister to scoot.
It’s fair to say that it’s going to be a long time before things get back to some kind of normality. I’ve been told on more than one occasion by more than one person that what we are going through is Mothers nature’s way of telling us to buck up our ideas – to be kinder to each other, appreciate what we have and make this World a better place to be part of. I think I have to agree…
